Yeah yeah....

So, I know it's been a long time, but life has been crazy lately. Let's see how I can best do this:
1. I'm officially a Dr. now. I'm enjoying that in my classes. The students are also getting a kick out of it. It's so darn nice to be done with school...I keep catching myself thinking, "Wow...I just be revising..." but then I realize I don't have to. Thanksgiving and Christmas were the first breaks I've had in I don't know how long where I didn't have anything to do. It was fabulous.

2. Katie went in for her nine month check-up yesterday. I know, can you believe it's been that long? She's still svelte, but very very tall. She's at about 28.5" (which puts her in the 81st percentile) and 17.5lbs (which puts her in the 24th percentile). Still no teeth, but her hair is coming in nicely. All she wants to do is walk - she has very little interest in crawling. She can get up on all fours and army scoot around, but her preferred mode of travel is to roll. She can get anywhere in the house just by rolling...and often does. We're slowly moving into table foods, but she's a banana fiend...anything with banana is good with her. I'm impressed with how much she can eat even though she has no teeth. In addition, we started doing swim lessons on Tuesdays. Katie is definitely a waterbug. She spends all her time splashing the other kiddos and trying to swim - she can frog kick and paddle at the same time. I call it the Katie-stroke. The instructor already made us promise that when she is four she will join the swim team. It's a great activity for us - especially with it being too darn cold outside for anything else.

3. School is going well. I am officially past the halfway point to tenure, which is a nice feeling. My reviews are still good and the addition of the doctorate was a nice plus. I keep taking on overload courses to pay for daycare, but I've been lucky enough to get two of them online, so I still have a morning-only schedule. Monday-Friday I have to make the drive, but I only have to be here until noon-ish (barring SKD or other meetings). It's nice to have that extra time with Katie. And I managed to get two online courses for the summer so I can make money and still stay home with her. Bonus!

4. Everyone had a very good Christmas. We still had to travel back and forth between the families, but it was cool to see Katie experience everything. Of course, she was spoiled rotten, but what else could you expect? Mike and Kyle are doing well and are in the middle of a never-ending kitchen process. Hopefully, they'll be able to finish that up soon. Mark and Katie are still together - Katie is working on her Master's degree in psych and Mark is now down in the E'ville area doing his internships for his criminal justice degree. Right now he's working with the Dept. of Natural Resources and loving it. It's right up his alley, that's for sure. Dad's counting the days until retirement and Mom's just happy to be able to say four more years.

I know I'm probably forgetting a lot, but I'll try to write again soon. The first week of class is always a bit busy.

Is this the end???

So, my defense has been scheduled for Monday, November 17.

And I'm in panic mode. I mean, this is what - like 27 years of school leading up to the terminal degree? Crazy stuff....

If all goes well, I expect you all to refer to me as Doctor for at least a week :)

Halloween

So...Katie was supposed to be a cute lil' monkey for Halloween. I LOVED the costume and she was going to be adorable...then she grew. And grew. And grew...by inches. Well, come Halloween it sure didn't fit.

Thankfully, Sarah gave us a cute Pumpkin outfit to wear when it was cold during the week. And, after scouring the bargin bin at Target and Party City, we found the clearance Banana costume. It was long...that was really all that mattered at that point. And, considering that Halloween night was like 78 degrees, it was a bit warm - but certainly not as warm as the monkey would have been. It was a good weekend, though - and Katie went to her first bonfire - woo-hoo!

Anyway, my dissertation is now on its second format check - hopefully I'll hear about that tomorrow.
